Expert Tips for Summer Newborn Care

best products for baby skin India

Welcoming a newborn baby into the family is exciting , but it is also filled with a lot of responsibility, especially during the summer heat.  Being a new parent, you should ensure that your baby is safe and comfortable in this hot weather.  In this article, we will discuss the essential tips on how you can take care of your newborn in the summer season using the best products for baby skin India.

1. Comfortable Clothing

You should make your baby wear light, loose, and breathable clothes like cotton and refrain from excessive swaddling in the summer season. Don't forget comfort after fashion or tradition! Cover your baby fully in a full-sleeved light clothing shirt and full pants to ensure sufficient protection from mosquitoes. You can also use mosquito repellent patches on their clothes or the nets to prevent bites. Avoid applying the repellents directly on the baby’s skin.

2. Ambient Temperatures

In summer afternoons, you should not keep the fans or air conditioners turned off .You can keep the temperature at 26°C or more instead. Keep the infant away from the direct airflow of AC or fan. Keep your house windows open to maintain proper ventilation but use window mesh to prevent the entry of mosquitoes or insects.

3. Proper Hydration

Breastfeeding infants don't require additional fluid to ensure proper hydration. Breast milk provides sufficient water to quench an infant's thirst. However, the mother should intake high hydration. You can monitor your baby’s hydration state by the urination frequency. It should typically be between 6-8 times daily.

4. Skincare

It is recommended to give them the best natural oil for newborn skin massages daily , it will help in improving your baby’s sleep, nervous development, and overall growth. After an oil massage, give the baby a sponge bath  or a lukewarm bath. The skin folds in the underarms, neck, thighs or groin tend to hold sweat. If left moist, there can be a fungal infection or rashes. You must do extra care for these sites using the best products for baby skin India.

Keep your baby diaper-free as long as possible. Avoid using commercial wet wipes, which may cause a skin rash when rubbed excessively. It is better to clean with a wet  soft cotton cloth or running water. Also, frequent use of talcum powder is not recommended in skincare, as it may cause respiratory issues in the baby.

5. Sun Protection

It is recommended to expose newborns to the morning sunlight for half an hour and avoid it between 11 am-3 pm when the sun's heat is at its peak. If your infant is below six months, they have very little melanin in their skin to protect them against harmful UV rays. Melanin is a pigment that provides colour to your skin, eyes, and hair , it also protects us from the sun. You can use Little Rituals’ Ray Shield sunscreen which is clinically tested on babies sensitive skin.

6. Seek Medical Advice

If your baby shows any signs of illness, discomfort, or unusual behaviour, seek medical advice promptly. Heat-related issues like dehydration, rashes, and heat stroke are very dangerous for babies.
